Make your computer monitor into a mirror

I happened across a silly question while surfing the web

"Does anyone know if it's possible to use a background that would essentially turn my computer monitor into a mirror? Scanning a mirror doesn't work."

That sounds as though he actually tried it.  As a matter of fact though, you might like to think about what you actually would get if you scanned a mirror.

I need to reflect on that for a while...

  2. Scanning a mirror would give a blinding white screen since the scanner uses a white light to illuminate the pages/whatever is being scanned.

  3. Scanning a mirror would therefore be no better than simply creating an image which is nothing more than a white background.

Why would anyone want their computer screen to be like a mirror anyway? What is wrong with - gasp! - a mirror?

It worries me what people try. My wife's brother in law (don't know what that makes him to me) is pleased as punch that he has a app to use his £500 iPad as a torch. Me, I use a torch - easier to handle, slips into a pocket and a heck of a lot cheaper to replace if you drop it!

  4. that's what webcams are for

  5. You have to admit it would be a cool idea though. To just be able to click a button and be able to see yourself and then get back to doing what you were doing. Webcams are good too but I'm sure this was a thought long before a webcam so it is not that far fetch. If you are in an old pc environment then having a webcam may be another piece of hardware and drivers that needs to be installed. I bet if they really tried Apple could come up with it lol

  6. Apple did come up with it. On the top of your Macbook screen right in the middle is the webcam; turn it on and you've got a mirror. All the newer HPs have it to. "If you are in an old pc environment..." why would you be? Honestly half the people who have old PCs probably bought them used and payed as much as you would pay today for a decent laptop. "I got this great 386 used for $300 bucks!" Yeah, well, you could have bought a laptop at Walmart brand new for the same price, WITH THE WEBCAM MIRROR!

  7. Are we missing a point here? Why do you want your computer screen to be a mirror?

There is also a slight difference between a mirror and a webcam (presented in the standard manner) which can easily be demonstrated by raising an arm.

In front of a mirror raise your left arm. You will see this on the left side of the image in the mirror. Now try this in front of your webcam, you will see the left arm on the right side of the screen. (Yes I am sad enough to have tried this!)

But to return to my original point - WHY?

  8. Why? Because I was late to work and have my straightener plugged in and would like to fix my hair.

  9. Anonymous, that has happened to me numerous times also. I misplaced my little mirror and my straightner is plugged in next to my computer. It happens. :)

  10. That’s a very interesting question indeed! “Scanning a mirror doesn't work.” Sounded pretty silly but funny. I wonder if the author of the question is really serious. :D

  12. I am not crazy, just lazy. Just trimmed my face and was wondering how many nicks. And in the middle of a movie! When I have to I'll go to the bathroom and see then. Just wondering about mirrors. I keep breaking them. Have not broke a computer yet.

  13. using an ipad as a torch reminded me of the Japanese guy who makes torches that are powered by the sun with a solar cell

  14. why are people so dang mean when you ask this question??????????? seriously cant people wonder if they can or not or maybe they NEED to use a mirror but DONT have one

  15. Someone actually did this which happened to be very awkward. She had to find a laptop and used their webcam as an alternative to a mirror. LOL. She obliviously knew the person but it would've been BEYOND awkward if she didn't

  16. I was looking for an answer to this myself, and here's why. That's kind of funny... but I actualy want to see my wife when she's naked (getting out of shower or getting dressed) without actually turning towards her and making her uncomfortable or whatever. Sounds crazy? weird? So be it.

  17. ... oh, and no, I don;t want to use a webcam. I just thought maybe there's some desktip BG color that would do the trick.

  19. Are you sitting comfortably? I find myself constantly drawn back to the subject of computer monitor. Remarkably computer monitor is heralded by shopkeepers and investment bankers alike, leading many to state that there are just not enough blues songs written about computer monitor. It is estimated that that computer monitor is thought about eight times every day by those politically minded individuals living in the past, who form the last great hope for our civilization. Hold onto your hats as we begin a journey into computer monitor.

  20. You scanned the mirror wrong. You have to use Alchemy.

  21. In order to answer the question you need to look at it in a different way, like through a mirror. The question here shouldn't be to turn your desktop monitor into a mirror but rather find a mirror that can be used as a desktop monitor.
